A sage at 18?

Check out the recent post by Matthew, its a good read: http://matthewburnett.blogspot.com/2007/02/wilderness-and-barrenness.html

Greatness in the poor

Mother Teresa's address at the National Prayer breakfast in 1994 included the following statement:

Then there was the man we picked up from the drain, half eaten by worms and, after we had brought him to the home, he only said, "I have lived like an animal in the street, but I am going to die as an angel, loved and cared for." Then, after we had removed all the worms from his body, all he said, with a big smile, was: "Sister, I am going home to God" - and he died. It was so wonderful to see the greatness of that man who could speak like that without blaming anybody, without comparing anything. Like an angel - this is the greatness of people who are spiritually rich even when they are materially poor.

Liturgical background: Feb 2

According to the liturgical calendar, given thats its 40 days since celebrating the birth of Christ Jesus, today is the feast of the Presentation... a celebration of the recognition and declaration of Simeon and Anna who were in the temple the day Joseph and Mary brought the infant Jesus to the temple, according the the law of Moses. The scripture in Luke chapter 2 states this:

25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27 So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, 28 he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said:

29 “ Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word;
30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation
31 Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples,
32 A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles,
And the glory of Your people Israel.”

33 And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him. 34 Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against 35 (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

36 Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity; 37 and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. 38 And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

Weighing in

OK, while in Atlanta this last weekend we made our way (twice) to Chipoltle's. I had to see if the legend of these was what friends had touted: the best burritos on the market. We drifted in (short line both times, BTW) and I settled on a steak burrito, pinto bean, guac. I've been to many burrito places: Moes, Qdoba, Baja Fresh as well as the typical fast-food outlets... plus I'm a Texan so burritos are kind of our national food. Anyway, we sat down and ate... really chowed down. Here is my assessment:

Tortilla: fresh, nothing spectacular but neither was it disappointing or lacking in some way
Ingredients: beans were good, sauce/salsa was terrific (I had the medium heat, it was perfect), cheese was also good but not otherwise notable. The lettuce they put on the burrito was wonderful: fresh and crunchy, a great touch. And the meat was good, really and truly good. Exceptional in that it had a terrific flavor and compliment to the ensemble.

So, I'm sold. They are great burritos. I'd put them in the same category as Baja Fresh, which are also deeply satisfying burritos of great quality, true standouts. Now I'm one among the masses, waiting for Charlotte to get its franchise...

Back to work!

The IT schedule resumes, making headway in that realm today! The Atlanta trip was amazing, I believe it set a lot of things in motion. I know it did in me!

Tonight I'm teaching the EZ37 internship on a huge key to intimacy with Jesus and cultivating holy passion: growing in confidence in God's love. Time is 6:45 at ZHOP in the internship classroom.

Sunday AM in Hotlanta

We're in the conference room again this AM. Kirk will be teaching this morning, the worship is already underway. They have some great worship leaders with the Atlanta IHOP. Bumped into Billy Humphrey (Atlanta IHOP director) and a prayer leader from Dublin, California earlier this morning at Starbucks. There are some tremendous connections going on, and great impartation. Last night the ZHOP team went up and laid hands on prayer room leaders as they are working towards securing prayer room locations and finances... it was powerful. Its such a privilege to be a part of this gathering in that way.
